Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,439 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On August 25 at Baldwin State Prison, a subject was observed near the facility’s maintenance shop. A search of the perimeter found bundles wrapped in black tape. The subject was arrested and transported to the Baldwin County Jail.

On August 25 at Macon State Prison, 2 suspects were detected on the facility’s wood line. A search of the area found a hole in the fence behind the maintenance shop, bolt cutters, glue, a tool set, and a large unopened package. A vehicle with 2 individuals approached the area that was identified as the vehicle that dropped off the suspects. A search of the vehicle found an unknown amount of marijuana. During that search, another vehicle approached occupying 3 individuals. A search of that vehicle found 20 large bundles with contents unknown. All 7 individuals were arrested by Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

On August 24 at Wilcox State Prison, contraband was detected on Officer Jasmine Bivens through the body scanner. The contraband consisted of tobacco and marijuana. Officer Bivens was arrested by the Wilcox County Sheriff's Office.
