Contraband Arrests at Autry and Johnson State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,436 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On August 23 at Autry State Prison, two civilians were discovered near the facility’s wood line. A further search found 7 contraband packages on the premises. Both civilians were arrested by Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office.

On August 19 at Johnson State Prison, Officer Valencia Thomas arrived for her shift when the shift supervisors noticed a marijuana odor coming from her person. A search revealed the following contraband: sphere-shaped packages and packs of tobacco. Officer Thomas was arrested by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
