Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,125 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On October 9 at Montgomery State Prison, civilians Leisha and Johnny Kaigler were arrested for attempting to introduce contraband while visiting an offender by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. After conducting a vehicle search, security staff discovered 1 roll of black tape, 1 roll of clear tape, 3 cigarillos, 2 cellphones, a knife, a cross, 3 tennis balls wrapped in black tape, 2 tennis balls inside of a can and 1 lighter.

On October 10 at Ware State Prison, security staff observed a suspicious vehicle.  Ware County Sheriff’s Office was notified and conducted a search of the vehicle where they discovered 5 unknown packages.  The two civilians inside the vehicle were arrested by Ware County Sheriff’s Office.

On October 14 at Baldwin State Prison, during a search of the parking area security staff discovered, 1 plastic bag containing a green leafy substance and a green leafy substance wrapped inside a tobacco leaf weighing 1.3 grams and a gun.  Visitor Charity Munoz was arrested by Milledgeville Police Department.
