Contraband Arrest at Burruss Correctional Training Center

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 811 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

1. On April 16, visitor Shirkia Jackson attempted to enter Burruss Correctional Training Center for visitation when a strong odor of marijuana was detected. Visitor Jackson gave consent to be searched and 0.9 grams of marijuana wrapped in a plastic bag were discovered in her undergarments. Visitor Jackson’s vehicle was searched but no additional contraband was discovered. Visitor Jackson was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
