Karen Flowers Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Karen Flowers to Warden at Lee State Prison (SP), effective June 16, 2022. As Warden, Flowers will be responsible for overseeing all staff members and approximately 452 medium security male offenders.

"During her 29-year tenure with the agency she has proven herself to be a devoted and steadfast leader," said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. " We are confident that she will continue to uphold the mission as she carries out her new leadership role at Lee SP.”

Flowers began her career with the Department in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Autry SP, and in 1994, she transferred to Calhoun SP. During her tenure at Calhoun SP, she was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Chief of Security.  In 2006, she was reassigned to Lee SP as Chief of Security, and in 2019, she was promoted to Unit Manager.  Flowers was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Lee SP in 2020, and was promoted to acting Warden in 2021, where she currently serves.

Flowers attended Broward Community College where she studied Mental Health. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Correctional Leadership Institute, Executive Leadership Training, National Institute of Corrections, Deputy Warden's Academy, and Warden's Pre-Command Academy.
