Tarmarshe Smith Reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the reassignment of Tarmarshe Smith to Warden at Macon State Prison (SP) effective July 1, 2020. As Warden, Smith is responsible for overseeing approximately 330 staff members and 1,760 close-security male offenders.

“Smith has displayed a remarkable work ethic and is an invaluable asset to the agency, “ said Commissioner Ward,  “We are confident that his experience and knowledge will allow him to successfully lead the team at Macon SP.”

Smith began his career with the Department of Corrections in 2002 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia SP where he also served as a Canine Handler, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and Unit Manager. In 2016, Smith was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Smith SP, and in 2018, he was promoted to Warden at Calhoun State Prison, where he served until his assignment to Macon SP.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Mercer University and a Master’s degree in Administration in Public Safety from Columbus State University. He has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Advanced Management Training, and Pre-Command.
