FORSYTH, Ga. – Special Agents with the Georgia Department of Corrections’ (GDC) Office of Professional Standards are investigating the death of an inmate at Valdosta State Prison in Valdosta, Georgia as a suspected homicide. 

Agents have reason to believe inmate Bobby Carpenter (GDC # 1001758692) died as a result of injuries sustained during an altercation with another inmate on September 9, at the facility.  Medical personnel responded and life saving measures  were performed.  Carpenter was pronounced deceased at the facility, at approximately 7:48 a.m.  The GDC is conducting an investigation into the death as standard procedure. 

Carpenter was sentenced in Cherokee County in 2016 to serve twenty years for Armed Robbery.
