Visitation Suspension Extended

FORSYTH, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has extended the suspension of visitation at all facilities through May 13, 2020, in keeping with Governor Kemp’s Public Health State of Emergency.  The suspension date is necessary in order to continue to protect staff and offenders from further spread of COVID-19 within our facilities.  The GDC will reevaluate the suspension on a weekly basis after May 13, and we will continue to provide updates via our website and social media platforms. 

In addition to extending the suspension of visitation, temporal temperature screening, and other measures already in place,  the GDC continues to take steps in consultation with public health officials.  One such measure has been the completion of chemical fogging in all facilities; a process that will continue as an added cleaning method to ensure proper sanitation is maintained.  Additionally, all staff and offenders have been provided with two sneeze/cough masks, and state facilities are now equipped with disinfecting shoe mats for use by all individuals as they enter and depart the facility.
