William Danforth promoted

FORSYTH, GA -- Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of William Danforth as Assistant Regional Director of the Southeast Region effective January 1, 2016. Danforth will assist with oversight of the management of 14 facilities throughout the Southeast Georgia Region.

“Warden Danforth has more than 20 years experience in all facets of facility operation,” said Commissioner Bryson. “He is an asset to the Department and leads with our mission, vision and core values at heart.”

Danforth joined the GDC in 1988 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta State Prison and has served in numerous positions including Sergeant, Lieutenant and Tactical Squad Commander. Danforth was appointed Unit Manager at Macon State Prison in 1998 and was named Deputy Warden of Security at Dooly State Prison in 2002. He was promoted to Warden and transferred to Homerville State Prison in 2005. He was later named Warden at Valdosta State Prison in 2008, and Warden at Telfair State Prison in 2012, where he most recently served.

Danforth has completed the following Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), POST Instructor Training, Professional Management Program (PMP), and Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI).

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
