Tim Williams appointed

FORSYTH, GA - Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the appointment of Tim Williams as the Deputy Director of the Office of Professional Development effective December 16, 2015.  Williams will now be responsible for operation of the department’s Corrections Academy as well as assisting with the supervision of campus operations and departmental Care and Custody.

“Tim brings a wealth of training and leadership experience to this position,” said Commissioner Bryson.  “I am confident that his experience will raise the standard even higher at the academy and the State Offices South campus.”

Williams began his career with the Department in 1993 as a Training Specialist. He has served as Training Specialist, Public Safety Training Instructor, Public Safety Training Manager, Deputy Director of Training, Deputy Director of Operations, Planning and Training Division, and Director of the Operations Section.  He was assigned as the Superintendent of State Offices South at Tift College in 2011, where he currently serves.

Tim has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Alabama and Master’s Degrees in Business from Mercer University and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.  His departmental training includes: POST Instructor Training, Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Correctional Leadership Institute (CLI), and Executive Leadership Program. Additionally, Williams served in the United States Army and Army Reserve for a combined total of over 31 years, retiring at the rank Brigadier General.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
