Last Meal

FORSYTH, Ga. – Condemned murderer Marcus Ray Johnson is scheduled for execution by lethal injection at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. Johnson was sentenced to death for the 1994 murder of Angela Sizemore in Dougherty County.

Media witnesses for the execution are: Rhonda Cook, Atlanta Journal Constitution; Terry Lewis, Albany Herald; Kate Brumback, Associated Press; Cade Fowler, WALB TV; and Eric Mock, WGXA TV.

Johnson requested a last meal consisting of a six pack of beer. His request was declined as alcohol is a contraband item, and he will be receiving the institutional tray consisting of  baked fish portions, cheese grits, dry mixed beans, cole slaw, cornbread, crisp drop cookies and fruit punch.

There have been 57 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1973. If executed, Johnson will be the 36th inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are presently 78 men on death row in Georgia.

The Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison is located 45 minutes south of Atlanta off Interstate 75. From Atlanta, take exit 201 (Ga. Hwy. 36), turn left over the bridge and go approximately ¼ mile. The entrance to the prison is on the left. Media covering the execution will be allowed into the prison’s media staging area beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
