Promotion Announced

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Antonnio Printup as the Director of Special Operations effective November 16, 2015. As Director, Printup will be responsible for the agency’s Fire and Life Services, Transportation and Special Operations.

“Antonnio has proven himself as a invaluable asset to our agency,” said Commissioner Bryson. “His range of experience will greatly benefit the Special Operations team.”

Printup began his career with the Department in 2004 as a Probation Officer in the Cherokee Judicial Circuit.  He was promoted a year later to serve as the Sex Offender Officer in the same circuit. In 2007, he became a P.O.S.T. Certified Instructor and trained officers in the Metro Atlanta and Northwest Region.  In 2009, Printup moved to Central Office to work with the Sex Offender Administrative Unit as a Program Development Consultant.  He was promoted in 2011 to serve as a Criminal Investigator with the GDC Apprehensive Unit and in 2013, he was appointed as the Director of the Georgia Corrections Academy, where he currently served.

Printup earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Fort Valley State University and received his Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Phoenix.  During his career with the Department, he completed Basic Probation Officer Training (BPOT), POST IT, Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Firearms Instructor and Defensive Instructor Training.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
