Maurio Sinkford Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga.— Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Maurio Sinkford from Deputy Warden of Security at Coastal State Prison to Superintendent at Coastal Transitional Center effective September 16, 2015. Sinkford will be responsible for the daily operations of the facility and overseeing 29 staff and 262 minimum-security male offenders.

“Maurio has 21 years of experience and knowledge of the corrections system,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We are confident that he will excel in his new role as Superintendent.”

Sinkford began his career with the Department in 1994 as a Clerk Principle at Augusta State Medical Prison. He then served as a Correctional Officer for the Augusta Transitional Center and then as a Public Safety Training Instructor I at the North Georgia Corrections Academy. In 2006, he was promoted to a Public Safety Training Instructor II in the Advanced Training Unit and then in 2010, he was promoted to Special Operations Coordinator. In 2011, Sinkford was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Coastal State Prison, where he most recently served.

Sinkford received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University.  His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Professional Management Program, Corrections Leadership Institute, Pre-Command, and Deputy Warden of Security Academy. In addition, Sinkford served in the United States Army from 1986 to 1993, where he received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
