Robin Owens Promoted from Acting Status

FORSYTH, Ga.— Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Robin Owens to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Coastal State Prison effective November 1, 2014. As Deputy Warden, Owens is responsible for the supervision of education, health services, library, counseling and mental health counseling at the facility housing 1,560 male inmates located in Garden City.

“Robin has dedicated more than 13 years of faithful service to the Department,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “She brings a wealth of knowledge that will continue to benefit the staff and inmates at Coastal State Prison.”

Owens began her career with the Department in 2001 as a General Population Counselor at Savannah’s Men’s Transitional Center. In 2006, Owens was promoted to Mental Health Counselor at Coastal State Prison (SP) and in 2010 she was promoted to Chief Counselor of Coastal SP. In May of 2014, Owens also began serving as the Acting Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment of Coastal State Prison, where she most recently served.

Owens received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Savannah State University and a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Argosy University. Owens is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. Owens also served in the United States Air Force Reserves for 14 years as a Medical Technician.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
