Pelham native Named New Warden at Rogers State Prison

Clay Tatum Reassigned

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Clay Tatum as the Warden of Rogers State Prison effective October 16, 2013. The facility is located in Reidsville, Georgia. As Warden, Tatum will be responsible for overseeing 260 staff members and 1,487 medium security male inmates and support an extensive farming operation which provides vegetables, meats and milk for all state correctional facilities.

"Clay has been an exceptional leader throughout his 22 years of dedicated service with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We are confident that his wealth of knowledge will serve him well in his new position."

Tatum began his career with the Department in 1991 as a Correctional Officer at Southwest Probation Detention Center. In 1996, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Calhoun State Prison. He advanced through the ranks holding positions as Captain, Deputy Warden and Superintendent. In 2007, he was promoted to Warden at Lee State Prison and served as Warden at Calhoun and Hays State Prisons. In March 2013, he was reassigned to Warden at Montgomery State Prison where he most recently served. Prior to joining the Department, Tatum served the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office. Tatum received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from California Coast University.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
