Steve Goen Promoted

Forsyth Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Steve Goen to Deputy Warden of Security at Burruss Correctional Training Center effective October 16, 2013. The facility houses 808 medium security male inmates in Forsyth.

"Steve is a dedicated employee with 27 years of service to the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "His loyalty and knowledge will be of great value to Burruss Correctional Training Center."

Goen began his career with the Department in 1986 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1999 and in 2003 to Lieutenant. In 2005, Goen was promoted to Captain and then to Unit Manager in 2006, where he most recently served. Additionally, he served on the Tactical Squad from 1987 to 1994. He has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training and Professional Management Program.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
