Contraband arrest at Calhoun and Smith State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,978 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On February 1 at Calhoun State Prison, Calhoun County Sheriff spotted a suspicious person in a vehicle near the facility. A vehicle search was conducted, and a bag with red and black electrical tape, a cell phone, debit cards, and a drone were located. Civilian Donald Williams was arrested and taken to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

On February 5 at Smith State Prison, Glennville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. A vehicle search was conducted, and 6 bundles of unknown contraband and a gun were located. The three occupants, Kentavious Hardy, Romano Hightower, and Monica Martin were arrested and taken to Tattnall County Sheriff's Office.
