Contraband Arrests at Wilcox State Prison and Johnson State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,606 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On November 27 at Wilcox State Prison Civilian Devontae McCullough was arrested by Wilcox County Sheriff's Department after he was observed at the railroad tracks near the facility. Civilian McCullough surrendered a bookbag that he had in his possession that contained clothing, phones, phone accessories, tobacco, and phone chargers.

On November 27 at Johnson State Prison, visitor Brianna Howell refused a search of her person and her vehicle. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office conducted a search of visitor Howell's vehicle in which bundles wrapped in black electrical tape and a firearm was discovered. Visitor Howell was arrested by Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
