Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,568 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On September 26 at Macon State Prison, an unidentified person was sighted behind the Wardens house. A search found Civilian John McConnell with the following contraband: pack of press-on nails with glue and bottles of unknown amounts of tobacco and cellphones. Civilian McConnell was arrested and transported to the Macon County Jail.

On September 26 at Calhoun State Prison, multiple individuals were spotted behind the facility’s fence. A search found three individuals walking in the woods. Rafael Bynes, Janice Gerrard, and former offender Anthony Black. All three were arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.

On September 23 at Telfair State Prison, a person was seen walking near the facility. A search found an unknown civilian with contraband and a drone. Another civilian was found in their vehicle near the facility. Both civilians were arrested and transported to the Telfair County Jail.
