Contraband Arrest at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,292 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On September 22 at Hays State Prison, security staff received information that Visitor Joshua Perkins was carrying contraband to visitation. Visitor Perkins was questioned and admitted to having contraband on her person. After consenting to a search 7 marble size balloons were found on her person. The contents of the balloons are unknown at this time. Visitor Perkins was arrested by Chattooga County Sheriff's Office and transported to Chattooga County jail.

​On September 22 at Baldwin State Prison, security staff observed a suspicious person running out of the woods behind the facility. Milledgeville Police Department was called for assistance, and the person was apprehended by a Canine Unit and identified as Sahtir Rushdan Salahuddin. Salahuddin had the following contraband on his person: 2127.6 grams of tobacco, 26 grams of marijuana, 5 cellphone chargers, 3 condoms, 1 cellular hotspot, 3 USB ports, 1 cellphone, and 2 co2 cartridges. Salahuddin was arrested by Milledgeville Police Department and transported to Baldwin County Jail.

On September 19 at Ware State Prison, the Correctional Officer Fulton was attempted to clear the front entry when two buds of suspected marijuana were found on her person. Officer Fulton consented to a search of her person and the following contraband was found: six total packages that contain multiple unknown substances. Officer Fulton was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.

On September 16 at Hancock State Prison, civilian Stephanie Lashawn Mims was arrested by Eatonton Police Department. While searching a detail site the GDC Canine Unit observed civilian Mims walking toward offenders that were currently on detail. After observing the GDC Canine Unit, Mims decided to return to her vehicle. Eatonton Police Department was notified and contraband was discovered inside of the vehicle after the GDC Canine Unit made an alert on the passenger side. The contraband consisted of 65.9 grams of marijuana and 30.2 grams of methamphetamine.
