Contraband Arrest at Calhoun State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 835 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On July 16, at Calhoun State Prison, Visitor Tawanda Maddox was arrested after passing contraband to an inmate during visitation. While security staff conducted a strip search of the inmate, 2 packages containing contraband fell off his person. The inmate put up a struggle with security staff and was able to flush 1 package down the toilet. Security staff confiscated the second package, which contained 30 grams of marijuana. Visitor Maddox was arrested by Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.
